Apple‘s release of Mac OS X 10.5.3 includes not only operating system improvements but adds the ability to sync Google Contacts with Address Book. It only works for iPhone and iPod touch owners, but Lifehacker has a workaround. Although some people experienced problems doing the synchronisation.

Google Gears is now called Gears to make it clear that Gears isn’t just a Google thing. And there will be Firefox 3, Safari and Opera support in the future. So far Gears works with Google Reader, Google Docs, Remember The Milk and now with MySpace Mail. (Via Official Google Blog)

Webmonkey was a useful resource for web developers. Back in the ninetees it was started as part of HotWired that was acquired by Lycos in 1999. For a long time it was nothing more than an archive. Now Webmonkey is back, relaunched by Wired based on MediaWiki, making Webmonkey a collaborative project. (Via Jeffrey Veen)

Techmeme, the tech web site aggregating blogs and other news sites, has finally added search.

The New York Times released the beta version of Times Reader for the Mac, a programme with the ability to view the paper offline and with less ads than the web version. Times Reader for the Mac demands the installation of Microsoft Silverlight. So far the reactions are not very positive and there is a lot of criticism on the the use of Microsoft Silverlight.

Vidlink is a new app by Google, which lets you record movies and upload them to YouTube using the Mac’s built-in camera or many Firewire or USB video cameras. It supports importing videos from other programms too. (Via Official Google Mac Blog)

Google Maps have now two more options, which can show geo-tagged photos provided by Panoramio or geo-coded Wikipedia articles on maps.

For some time now Google Reader is the feed reader of my choice. Google Reader now has some new features. A new bookmarklet lets me share any site, not only sites from feeds that I am subscribed to. Notes can be attached to shared items or any blog entries. Even notes alone can be shared with others.

The multi-protocol instant messaging client Adium will support Facebook Chat in the next release. (via Adium – Blog)

At the weekend Microsoft has withdrawn its proposal to acquire Yahoo!. Microsoft now talks about improving search relevance, building an ad platform, about partnerships and innovation. Yesterday Yahoo! stock plunged, but still is higher than before the Microsoft offer happened.

Seems later on this year the iPhone will come to several new countries. Telecom Italia already published a press release today. A very short press release.

A good reason why these sites are down: The majority of Real World, Peter Gabriel and WOMAD web services are currently off-line. Our servers were stolen from our ISP’s data centre on Sunday night – Monday morning. We are working to restore normal service as soon as possible.

Flickr started code.flickr, a place to get in contact with the Flickr development community, to keep up on the Flickr API and to get the latest news on the open source Flickr Uploadr or other projects.

Flickr users can now add videos too. The clips can be 90 seconds long and may have up to 150MB. Flickr calls them long photos. Right now the upload is only possbile for Flickr Pro memebers. It seems up to now the videos contain more dog content than cat content.

Yahoo! announced the aquisation of IndexTools, a web analytics software for online marketing, for an undisclosed price.

Google Docs has some new features: Google Presentation export to the PowerPoint (.ppt) file format and advanced searches. Moreover search criterias can be saved when needed more often. To my surprise I realised that Google Presentation can be edited in Safari now.

For the first time since 2002 Andy Baio has redesigned his web site Waxy.org.
